The in-depth study of teaching methodology is the guarantee of teaching Chinese as a second language can steadily progress. We should pay attention to the emerging new teaching methodology in second language teaching and applied it in the teaching of Chinese as a second language to test the practice effect.AIM is short for Accelerative Integrated Methodology, is founded by French teacher Wendy Maxwell who teach French in Canada, has been widely recognized, and has been used in several countries and regions to teach French and English as second language. AIM advocates the use of a play or story as the main body of the teaching contents, teach vocabulary and grammar with gesture all the way, and set the goal of improve the students’ ability to communicate in second language in a short time. AIM has been used in teaching Chinese as a second language in Australia and received good feedback, however there are some problems to be solved.Carey Baptist Grammar School is a private school in Victoria, Australia. It has been using AIM to teach Chinese since2011in primary school and is the first school which only AIM to teach Chinese as a second language. The author went to Carey’s Chinese lessons, observed and recorded the teaching process. Based on the combing of theoretical basis and principle of teaching, combine with the practice in Carey and test result of use AIM in teaching Chinese, and with the interview of the teacher who use AIM, the author try to analyze advantages and disadvantages to use AIM in teaching Chinese as a second language, then suggested some activities to decrease the disadvantages.This thesis comprises five chapters.The foreword part discusses the meaning of topic and research background, include condition of teach Chinese in Australia and basic situation of Carey Baptist Grammar School.The second chapter introduces the foundation background, theoretical basis, teaching principle and teaching result of AIM, concluded the situation of teaching Chinese as a second language in primary school level and the learning trait of students in primary school.The third chapter discusses how to use AIM to teach Chinese character grammar and vocabulary, and discusses three ways to manage the class in Carey’s Chinese lessons. The fourth chapter measures the teaching effect of AIM from four different angles: the students’ test result, the rate chooses to study Chinese when they go to7th grade, the interview of the teacher and the satisfaction of the parents.The last part discusses the problems and disadvantages of using AIM in Chinese teaching and the author proposed suggestions to decrease the problems. Also the author point out this thesis has some deficiency.
