With rapid development of global economic integration and the deepening of ourOpening and Reform policy, China has more frequent communication and cooperationwith other countries in the world in terms of politics, economy, culture, etc. In the processof information globalization, TV program has gradually become an important platform forinternational exchange. In order to overcome the communication barrier set up by differentlanguages, simultaneous interpreting (SI) is being increasingly adopted in the broadcastingof TV programs. Among them, SI of TV interviews has drawn tremendous attention frompeople and become the new bright spot in the development of media in China. TVinterviews, through communication and interaction between interviewees and interviewers, aim to bring a “banquet” of language and vision to audiences. However, after consultingdata and studying, the author has found that there are no adequate books and informationon this newly emerging interpreting type with only few specific cases recorded. Therefore,it is necessary to make an analysis and do some research on SI of TV interviews.Among the numerous domestic TV programs,“Yang Lan’s One on One”, targeting atcreativity, forging ahead with determination and characterized by humanity andinternational cultural exchange, has received close attention and high praise fromaudiences. Due to its profound influence on society, it has become one of the high-endinterview programs in China. In this thesis, the author chose one episode from the program,in which Yang Lan interviewed Han Changfu, the Minister of Agriculture, in terms of foodsecurity, to do a simulated interpreting exercise. The author, as the interpreter for thispractice, hopes to get familiar with the process of TV interview SI, to analyze the problemsshowing up in the preparation and process, to find out and grasp the interpreting strategiescorresponding with specific cases, and to improve theoretical level and practical ability.Furthermore, this thesis could be taken as a reference to SI of TV program and contributesto the study for improving simultaneous interpretation. The thesis includes three chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the sources andbackground information, including task requirements and audience analyses. The secondchapter provides an overview of preparation and the SI process, covering many aspects, such as the preparation of terminology list, the expected process of SI, contingency planfor emergencies, analysis and feedback from audience. The third chapter, as the major partof the paper, classifies the problems in the SI process, and analyzes them in details in lightof some interpreting theories, such as syntactic linearity and effort distribution, etc.Corresponding strategies for coping with those problems are proposed in this chapter aswell.
