Exploration On The Life Of Liu Kun And His Creation

Liu Kun,a famous poet and patriotic general, lived between Eastern and Western JinDynasty. He stood out with his emotional, solemn, stirring, beautiful poetic style; heearned the respect of later generations with his braveness to undertake the mission,aspiration to dedicate himself to serve the country, worries about the bad times.Hishand-down works are not very much, but they had the trace of that time, presented uswith social features of the end of western Jin dynasty, were unique in Jin dynasties, andpossessed extreme literary value and meanings. The paper,takes Liu Kun as a subject inthe research, and mainly analyses Liu Kun’s lifetime and works, according to extantmaterials. It has two parts: the introduction and the body.First, the introduction part summarizes the present research situation of LiuKun.Second, the body develops with three chapters. The first chapter mainly talks aboutLiu Kun’s family background, lifetime and literature. Taking AD306as a division,LiuKun’s short lifetime can be divided into earlier and later period.During earlier period, heled a luxury life, worshiped Lao Zi, ingratiated himself with government officials andinvolved in The Upheaval of the Eight Princes.During his later period, he became theprefectural governor of Bingzhou,thus opened a new chapter in life.Upon literary creation,the paper puts an emphasis on the quality of his poetry, and put forward the opinion onthe basis of others’ research.The second chapter mainly studies Liu Kun’s poetry and is divided into three partsresisting about the content of poetry, artistic features, and reasons of change of poeticstyle.There was real history and deep personal feelings in his poetry,which formed a tonefull of lifted conception and emotional,solemn feelings in western Jin dynasty whenpoetic styles were fabulous. And this unique style has much to do with his experience andpersonalities.The third chapter studies the articles of Liu Kun, and is resisting about thegenres,contents, and artistic features of his articles. The genres has Biao Wen, Letter andOath. Although among his articles, official document took a great proportion, there weremany fine writings.Liu Kun’s articles integrated his experience and the social situation atthat time, genuinely depicted the social situation at that time，and can be called as theSocial Record of the end of the western Jin dynasty.
