In recent years, the research of vocal theories has been enriching and improvinggradually with the development of the art of vocal music. One of the important aspects of thisresearch is the study from the non-vocal music subjects. This paper focuses on the point of theservice for vocal music from the non-vocal music subjects, especially from the four diagnosticmethods of “Observing, Listening, Consulting and Feeling” from Chinese medicine. Thispaper systematically introduces how the vocal music teachers make use of the four diagnosticmethods to deal with the technical problems that occur during the classes. So the vocal musicteachers can better solve students’ problems according to their performance and psychology, not only from the external part of vocal music teaching, but also from the internal problems ofstudents themselves. This teaching method has the same role with the four diagnostic methodsof Chinese medicine. This paper has not only a high degree of theory, but also lots of practicalsolutions to the problems. It is truly a combination of theory and practice in order to betterexplain the characteristics of vocal teaching.Chinese medicine has a long, profound history. In the long historical development, thefour diagnostic methods of “observing, listening, consulting and feeling” are graduallyformed. In the traditional medicine,“observing” means to observe the patients. The doctorswatch his sick or the diseased body and observe the change of external sensory and thepatients’ color to get the preliminary understanding of the patient.“Listening” means doctorstell the disease of the patient by listening to the sounds and smelling the patient;“Consulting”means inquiry. Doctors understand the patient’s condition and development of the process byasking the patient or his relatives. At the same time, consulting is the most important one ofthe four diagnostic methods.“Feeling” means doctors treat the patients’ disease by touchingthe patients’ pulse. Doctors can make the deep treatment after these three stages. It can be saidthese three stages are the basis for the final stage and the observation and analysis works as the basis for the conclusion. This paper has four chapters. The first chapter briefly describes the medical meaning thefour diagnostic methods under the background of Chinese medicine. The second chapterdescribes the internal link between the vocal music teaching and the four diagnostic methodsand explains the four diagnostic methods are not only applicable to clinical medicine, alsoapply to vocal teaching. The third chapter focuses on the practical application of the fourdiagnostic methods in the vocal music teaching. This paper combines the theory of vocalskills and the practical problems to make the solutions step by step. The fourth chapter is therequest made for vocal music teachers. The inherent quality of teachers is a direct impact onthe application of the four diagnostic methods and the improvement of students’ vocal level. Therefore, it is very necessary to improve the inherent quality of vocal music teachers.
