Research On Xiao Zi’xian

Xiao Zi-xian was a royal from NanQi Dynasty family and lived in the Liang Dynasty,his main achievements included the Nan Qi shu which was one of the Twenty-Four Historiesand two pieces of essays as well as eighteen pieces of poetries according to the statistics ofYan Ke-jun and Lu Qin-li. The paper will take Xiao as the researching center, analyzing hislife experience, poems, history works, literature thoughts and so on.The introduction part includes the study object, the research status, the research methodand the key points.Chapter One: Outlining Xiao’s life experience, according to the discussion of his familybackground and the political environment in the Liang Dynasty, we will get a result about hispersonality characteristics, which guided him to complete the history writing as well as hisofficial career.Chapter Two: Firstly we discuss the theme and the main content of Xiao’s poems. Thepoems’ themes including four categories: expressing the cherishing memory of sorrowwomen, young ladies who pursue for love and marriage, expressing appreciation for womenand feast poetries. Then we discuss poetry style and language characteristic. At last weanalyze the frequent spring scenery and "youth" image within these poems, and regarding itas the reflection of the poet’s life consciousness.Chapter Three: Briefly discussing the Nan Qi shu, compilation background andmotivation, try to talk about the unique spirit of historian. Then analyzing the art features andlanguage characteristics of the Nan Qi shu, considered that it has rhythm and colorfulcharacteristics.Chapter Four: Analyzing the literary thoughts of Xiao. The first section discusses Xiao’sthought of literature development, including the concept on literature history as well as thevariation theory. The second section discusses Xiao’s theory of literary creation, including artistic conception theory and the concept of inspiration.
