In the sad melody of South Africa, which has been pushing forward despite repeatedfrustrations, colonialism and racialism is the historical grounding, based on which the literatureof South Africa develops a school of its own with distinction and grave color.July’s People byGordimer and Disgrace by Coetzee both used the unique era environment and historycoordinate of South Africa as the background, and vividly described the subversion andreplacement of the black in the areas of politics, property right and culture, while the white hadbeen the rulers in the years of racial segregation.Such experience caused sorts of pathologicalcharacteristics. In their works the historical trauma brought by racist was deeply exposed, andat the same time the future society where the black and white have harmonious coexistence wasprospected.Due to different personal position and view, the affections they poured into their respectiveworks had difference, and the actions of them in real life also differed greatly. But in a sensethe way they had explored to bright future in works was basically the same.It is that only theblack and white realize the identity of each other, let the history of racism go the end and makethe cycle of evil no longer continue, can it be South Africa out of estrangement and barriers, eliminating the suffering and dilemma for the road ahead. Now the economic of South Africa is developing rapidly, but the historical suffering ofracism has not vanished completely. Using the intertextual theory to make a in-depthcomparison and contrast of the thoughts and intension from the texts of the two literary giantsin South Africa still has unique value and meaning. If South Africa can make its developmentand progression by the road given by both,Will a new paradigm of ethnic coexistence and anew vision to human beings be formed?... |
