Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No.50678082) which is undertaking by prof. Yongping Wang.Tibetan temple is the main building type in traditional Tibetan architecture since Tibetan Buddhism has a profound impact in Tibet. Tashilhunpo Monastery is the largest temple of Gelug Sect in Shigatse area., it is the residence of the Panchen Lama., also is an important heritage of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism Temple. The research on Tashilhunpo Monastery’s contribute to a deeper understanding in the development and evolution of the building groups in Gelug Sect Temples.From the architectural viewpoint and the development of Gelug Sect as the background, the thesis base on the fieldwork and mapping of Tashilhunpo Monastery’s buildings, studied and summarized the Tashilhunpo Monastery’s location、layout and architectural form, try to analysis its cause of formation.There are five chapters in this thesis:Chapter one mainly elaborates the research background, research object, research content and purpose, significance and research methods; The rise of Gelug Sect and the relationship between successive Panchen Lama and Tashilhunpo Monastery were studied in chapter two; Chapter three analyzed the Tashilhunpo Monastery’s location and construction group layout features, and analyzed the temple’s forming reasons、process and characteristic; The fouth chapter aimed at different levels of single building of Tashilhunpo Monastery, analyzed the plane function and characteristics of form system; The fifth chapter records the Tibetan architecture technical characteristics inheritance by Tashilhunpo Monastery’s ancient architecture company; Finally, the conclusion part summarized the temple overall.
