The text for translation in the thesis is an excerpt of the novel "The Journal of a Voyage to Lisbon"(1754) by Henry Fielding (1707-1754).The commentary mainly analyzes the conjunction translation from the perspective of differences in thinking modes. Based on Halliday and Hasan’s cohesion theory and by explaining the definition, category and cohesion meaning of conjunction, this thesis is conducted in three aspects:conjunctions’being "explicit" or "implicit", the order of the content before and after conjunctions, and the changes of cohesion meaning during translation. Through comparing some translation examples, the thesis has found that in English-Chinese translation, the Chinese thinking habits should be given such priority that some conjunctions shall be "implicit", the sequence of content before and after conjunctions needs to be adjusted in accordance with the thinking habits of Chinese, and the conjunctions’cohesion meaning shall be timely changed. |
