| In the history of Chinese art, Chao Meng-fu, who significantly influenced all later painters, has been a figure that is rather difficult to understand. One of the reasons for this reaction is that Chao’s art have revealed many different aspects of his models and talents but without any one single image such as those typical of each of the so called four masters of late yuan. In this paper I’11 try to rebuild the living environment of the years that Chao has been grown up, and find the relationship between Chao’s aesthetic spirit and the Taoism. |
