Since the World War II came to an end, 460 thousand allied forces, head by American army, occupied Japan. Then a lot of “War Bride” emerged at that historic time, but there were few modern literature works took this as the theme. Among these works, Sawako Ariyoushi’s Not Because of Colour(1963)described bitter experiences of four Japanese girls who were married to American soldiers when Japan was occupied and then moved to New York.On the one hand, the author exposed racial discrimination in America; on the other hand, the author potentially criticized the history identity war bride which caused the tragedy of the four girls. Seiichi Morimura whose social detective fiction- Proof of the Man(1975)described the tragic life of Kyouko Yasugi who was a famous fashion designer and a family problems critic. In order to maintain the fame and status, Kyouko Yasugi concealed her fact of War Bride, and even killed her natural son who came to seek his mother from a great distance.Marked as a special identity- War Bride, both protagonists of the above works had romantic entanglement with American soldiers when Japan was defeated and led to a tragic life in the end. The tragedy did have little relations with their own characters, but was greatly caused by the times. Differently, Not Because of Colour was written by a female writer and focused on their life in New York in early 1960 s. Proof of the Man was written by a male writer and focused on their life in Japan in late 1970 s. Therefore, centered by these two works, with detailed and accurate materials, this paper will analyze the War Bride from literary image and historical context. Further more, it will study the source of misunderstanding and ignorance from Japanese government and people as well as explore the limitations in collective aphasia and national humiliation facing the war.Based on the previous study, this paper will analyze the War Bride from three aspects guided by cultural anthropology: the historical development of War Bride; the source of the image in Japanese literature; value of historical perceive. This paper will study the historical development and the great value perceive of literature image of War Bride in Japan literature after the World War II.
