The Research Of Eileen Chang’s Novel From The Perspective Of Abnormal Psychology

Eileen Chang became well-known in Shanghai in 1943. Since then, she walked to the central among popular academic figures. There is no doubt that Eileen Chang’s study has already become a "significant learning". From the characters, artistic characteristics, desolate tone to tragic consciousness and feminist consciousness, to translation studies, biographical studies and comparative studies, researchers have achieved significant output in their areas. In terms of Eileen Chang’s characters study, “Abnormal psychology” is a good perspective which can dig its rich connotation of the novel, while this research perspective is often neglected. In the increasingly close relationship between literature and psychology, the relationship between abnormal psychology, one branch of psychology and literature has attracted great attention of academics. With the view of abnormal psychology perspective, all kinds of abnormal characters in Eileen Chang’s novels can create a new space for interpretation. This paper based on the existing research results, with abnormal psychology as the starting point to reinterpret Eileen Chang’s novel characters, and to analyze its inner motivation, as well as the practical significance. This paper is divided into the following three parts:The first part is about abnormal theory perspective of Eileen Chang’s novel characters. In this part, follow defining some abnormal psychology theories concepts, such as repression, libido theory, sexual disorders and so on, some classic characters in the above theoretical framework will be used to form further interpretation. The main purpose of this part is to dig the essence under through the phenomena and to seek the theoretical basis for the characters mental phenomena and behaviors.The second part is involved with the reason why Eileen Chang depicts more abnormal characters. This part will mainly go through with Eileen Chang’s life experience, Eileen Chang’s personality disorder and Eileen Chang’s complex of psychoanalysis, in order to point out that different life accumulation, her personality disorder and the identify with psychoanalytic theory are the reasons why Eileen Chang depicts more abnormal characters.The third part will discuss the realistic meaning of Eileen Chang’s novels’ abnormal writing. This part starts with the summary of first the close relationship among the abnormal psychology and the literary and artistic creation. And then from two aspects of writing, namely creation and acceptation, to point out that the abnormal writing is a kind of self release to literature creator, and a kind of emotional drain and sublimation to literature receiver. Through the above-mentioned two aspects, it is reasonable to conclude the realistic significance of Eileen Chang’s abnormal writing.Eileen Chang’s novel shows us a rich and colorful image world, With the view of abnormal psychology perspective, and the above three parts, this paper tries to point out the close relationship between Eileen Chang’s novel and abnormal psychology, and put this relationship as an example to provide a better understand about the artistic charm of Eileen Chang’s novel.
