Kaogongji is the first composition recording the manufacturing technology in Pre-Qin dynasty. The book reserved many names about ancient objects and some distinctive expression, thus making it to be the important stuff for researching civilization in ancient china. The research on the objects with their names would make contributions to the Thingology,Linguistics and Archaeology, including the study of the history of science and technology. This paper is intended to study the smelting and casting process recorded by Kaogongji, and pay attention to the construction of recorded tool, weapons, instrument, measure and their names. One of the purpose of the research is to get to the bottom of the construction of the old objects. This paper adopts the methods of exegesis to research puzzling vocabulary, basing on ancient explanatory note. What’s more, we study the structure, function, material of the objects, combining with the achievements of Archeology, and uncover the way how people named ancient knife, arrow, dagger-axe, halberd, sword, bell, cauldron and so on.In the period of Eastern Zhou, many archaic words began their derivation. Kaogongji, which was finished writing in this period, accumulated many words derived from the same word. This paper focuses studying the reason why the ancients gave some objects with the particular names, looking for the source that the names derived from. Kaogongji talked about the standard of engineering, thus making its expression of length, weight, capacity, angle, curvature is distinctive. So, we study the expression of measure in Kaogongji, so as to make known the ancient measure is from people’s body or other related objects.Because of the development of implements, the mistake of exegesis and the use of dialect, the names are wildly used. Therefore, we clear up the synonym of these names, at the same time, look for the different source of them.
