With quick development of urbanization and industrialization in China, there will be a stage of quick population mobility in decades, with which new citizens, a more and more common group, emerge. The new citizens come to cities for work and life. However, due to the shackles of dual political and economical structure, they are often discriminated. As a result, there come many adaption problems regarding to habits, identification transition and value. In recent years, adaption problems of new citizens have attracted attention from some scholars, who, in the perspective of demography and sociology, explored the adaption problems. Our paper systematically reviewed the study status of discrimination consciousness, identity, social support and social adaption, on the basis of which, we particularly discussed the relationship between discrimination consciousness and social adaption.Based on relevant empirical studies across the world, study 1 combined individual interview with opening questionnaires. After coding procedure based on the Grounded Theory and experts’ correction, we developed the Social Adaption Questionnaire for New citizens, and then conducted Exploratory Factor Analysis, Reliability and Validity Analysis, finally ensured formal scales for use.Study 2 conducted questionnaire survey to 380 new citizens in Suzhou(including Kunshan), explored the relationships existing among discrimination consciousness, identity, social support and social adaption. The specific conclusions are as follows:(1) New citizens’ level of discrimination consciousness was not that high, but they did have a moderate level in social adaption, an obviously low level in the dimension of psychological adaption.(2) Discrimination consciousness remarkably and negatively predicted social adaption.(3) Identity partially mediated the relationship between discrimination consciousness and social adaption.(4) Social support moderated the relationship between discrimination consciousness and social adaption.(5) The mediation role of identity was moderated by social support.
