A Survey Report On Market Demand And Suggestions For Professional Translators In Yinchuan,Ningxia

It’s important for Ningxia’s higher educational institutions to learn about the current demand for translators in Yinchuan so that they can improve their training of translators or MTI students. Since there are few survey reports on the market demand for professional translators, especially those about Yinchuan, this survey is conducted to know about the market demand for professional translators in Yinchuan and to develop some suggestions for training translators or MTI students.A questionnaire was designed and distributed via internet and some face-to-face interviews were also conducted. To guarantee the representativeness of the respondents, they were all selected from the government departments, enterprises with foreign business and a translation company in Yinchuan. Interviewees were mainly from managers of translation service. Responses were elicited from three aspects, i.e. the translating proficiency expected of professional translators, the current demand for translation service, and suggestions for translators training.Based on the analysis of the results, the following suggestions are put forward:First, in terms of teaching objectives, equal attention should be paid to the cultivation of students’ attitude, sense of responsibility, learning and communication skills as well as professional skills; second, concerning teaching content, language proficiency should be put in the first place, and practice on listening should be paid more attention to; Third, as for teaching methods, practical teaching in the form of translation projects is also highly advisable.
