The United Nations serves as the largest international organizationin the world. One of their purposes is to coordinate the actions of different countries and maintain world peace. In order to achieve the goal, the UN has always been working to build a better communication platform for all the member states. Most UN conferences, documents and publications are produced in English at first and will be translated into the other five UN official languages as soon as possible, in order to make the information available to most people and promote their communication. Therefore, how to get the information transmit promptly and correctly becomes an important problem the translators and researchers want to solve.In the report, the author compares the author’s translation with the final version, analyzing them on the basis of the six rules in UN translation and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. Taking the translation of the Year in Review 2011 for an example,the author summarizes some translation strategies of UN publication and hopes these can help other translators.The report includes four parts: the first part is the task description, including the task background and translation theory; the second part is the task process, which covers the translation process, difficulties and the solutions; the third part is the case study, which presents a contrastive analysis of examples from the Year in Review 2011; the forth part is the conclusion, including the experience gained in the translation project and its importance.
