| This thesis is a project report on the translation of an English autobiography called Choose Yourself, which is authorized by a publishing company. The author of this book, James Altucher, is an outstanding entrepreneur. In this book, it mainly narrates the author’s personal experience from an ordinary being to someone successful. The target readers of the translated version are some ordinary people, and the purpose of the translation is to inspire them to realize their dreams. This translation project report, based on the excerpts(from page87 to page113) from the translated chapters, gives a thorough description of the completion of the translation project. The cases analysis is based on the theory of semantic translation and communicative translation by Newmark.Because the source text is an autobiography, the difficulties in the process of translation lie in the language style itself. The colloquial language and the loose style in the source text make it difficult for the translator to keep the equivalence in the target text. Based on the theory of semantic translation and communicative translation, the foregoing problems are resolved respectively. The report is composed of four parts. The first part is about the background introduction of the translation project. The second part is the background information of the source text, including the brief introduction of the author, the version and the main content. The third part is the quality control of the translation, including the used translation theories and methods and the typical cases analysis. The last part is the summary of this translation report, and some lessons were listed in this part. |
