As the medium of cultural communication, translation promotes the exchanges between different languages. Literature, being an important form of culture, boasts the creation of ideas and arts. Translation of literary works, to a certain extent, promotes the exchange of cultures, and contributes to readers’ better understanding of literary translation from both theoretical and practical aspects. This is a translation project report on Road of an Ascetic written by Sun Yu from the perspective of the famous British translator Peter Newmark’s typology and his translation theories. This translation project report consists of four chapters:Chapter One is the introduction of the translation project, including project significance, project origin and report structure. Chapter Two is the introduction of the source text, including the author and main contents of the source text. Chapter Three is about quality control, including the theoretical framework, difficulties that the translator has met during the translation concerning the translation of sentences, words and figures of speech and how to solve these difficulties under the guidance of Newmark’s typology and translation theories. Chapter Three is the core part. Chapter Four concludes with the lessons, enlightenment and unsolved problems in this translation project.Through this translation project report, the author deeply realizes that the prose translation should achieve both the reproduction of the original meaning and the original artistic style. The translator shall have a good command of both English and Chinese when translating the prose, so the author will continue to broaden knowledge and improve translation skills in the later study.
