This project is mainly concerned with the early military life of George Washington. The contents of this report are divided into four main parts. Part one is an introduction including the background, origin, significance and structure of the report. Part two is about the introduction of the background, the author, the version and main contents of the source text. Part three is the quality control, including the translation difficulties and methods adopted to settle those problems under the guidance of Nida’s theory of "Functional Equivalence" in translation. The author focuses on this part. According to the theory of functional equivalence translation theory, the author uses the method of morphology, transformation, addition as well as some other translation strategies to translate Life of George Washington. The author selects several difficult problems in the translation process. The report concludes with the enlightenments and lessons from the translation and some problems to be solved in the future.A translator should not only boast solid translation skill but also achieves the level of knowing everything. I deeply aware of my lack of knowledge through this translation practice and I will pay more attention to this aspect.
