Study Of Words And Expressions In Nuo Drama Scripts Of Gui Chi In An Hui

The script of Nuo Drama was created on the basis of original Nan Drama or art of saying and singing, combining with the local production and living using dialects by people of each clan.It has the characteristics of spoken language and dialect. In its vocabulary, some come from the ancient Chinese; some come from oral language before modern Chinese, including many folk adages of local dialect. The corpus reflects the language fact then and there very well. The essay studies new words and meanings, dialect words and folk adages especially from diachronic and synchronic of two aspects. The main content can be devided into three parts:First, the study of new words and new meanings:We collect 16 new words and meanings from the script of Nuo Drama, which can be the supplement of Chinese Big Dictionary. Starting with the morpheme of new words, we explain and find their etymologies from the theory of meaning extention in the similar semantic field, the infection of meaning, lexicalization and so on. By comparision, we think that the disappearance of some words or meanings is influenced by use frequency, elegance and vulgarity, location, and the competition of synonyms.Second, the study of dialect words:Based on morden dialects we collect 66 dialect words which refect its regional feature of Nuo Drama script. Then we explain the 30 words and study their etymologies, and camparied with morden Chinese and other dialects in order to highlight their characteristics both in form and meaning.Third, the study of folk adages:We get 5 locutions,17 xiehouyu and 49 proverbs from Nuo Drama script. They are all more or less regional. Among them, locutions and xiehouyu are mainly from flok oral language, most of the proverbs come from historical documents. On the one hand, by formal parsing and comparision with Yuan Qu Xuan, we find that the form category of folk adages in Nuo Drama script is basic agreement with that of Yuan Qu Xuan. On the other hand, we explain and collect different forms of each folk adage.
