Ancient Chinese preposition has the characteristics of the simplex quantity and various functions. With the development of the Chinese language, prepositions gradually changed this grammatical pattern with increasing number and trend to simplified function. Just at the beginning of the increase, the function of prepositions tends to be overlapping. With internal adjustment, the function is standardized again. Therefore, preposition in general has experienced a process from chaos to order. The modern research of preposition has not be conducting a thorough and comprehensive research about the phenomenon. In the thesis, locative object is classified into start, middle and end, so that the preposition goes with these three kinds respectively could be researched. Based on the statistics about the relative preposition in the typical spoken language literature from different historical era, plus the description and explanation of evolution of preposition from early Qin Dynasty to modern times, the thesis intends to present a comprehensive and systematic process of its development.The full text is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is introduction which briefly introduces origin and purpose of selected topic, the present situation of preposition research and research ideas as well as difficulty and innovation point of this article.The second and third chapters focus on the data analysis and description of the preposition from spoken language literature from early Qin Dynasty to modern times. Firstly statistics analysis is conducted. Secondly the description is completed based on the mathematical statistics analysis to show the usage of preposition in different times.The fourth chapter is the conclusion that generalizes the development of three kinds of locative preposition from the perspective of history and tried to explore its reason.
