With frequent contact among different countries, interpreting becomes more and more common. However, during on-spot interpreting, most interpreters cannot do a perfect job due to the problems in the interpreting process. Therefore, finding out the problems through authentic interpreting practice, analyzing these problems and getting some reflections are very helpful and necessary in improving the interpreting quality. This report, based on a real interpreting practice for a lecture, will discuss the problems in interpreting process and try to offer some reflections so as to improve the quality of lecture interpreting.This report mainly adopts qualitative research method, descriptive method and analytical method. After receiving the task, the author makes some preparation including background knowledge, glossary and so on. The author records the interpreting process. Based on Interpretive Theory and Daniel Gile’s interpreting theory, the author makes an analysis of the first half an hour’s transcription and finds five main problems that affect the interpreting quality including misunderstanding of the source language, listening difficulties, anxiety in interpreting process, lack of public speaking skills and unexpected terminologies. The author discusses these problems with specific examples, analyzes the reasons and provides some reflections including preparing background knowledge, improving skills of listening, overcoming psychological problems, learning skills of public speaking and improving skills of memorizing.In conclusion, the author summarizes the problems and reflections,points out the limitations of this report and offers her suggestions for further study. The author hopes that this report can not only help her apply the interpreting theories and skills into real life practice but also offer some help and references to other interpreting learners and interpreting researchers.
