This is a translation project report of Human Geography: People, Place and Culture(Chapter 6) jointly written by Erin H. Fouberg, Alexander B. Murphy and H. J.de Blij. The original text is mainly about introductions to major language families across the world, the discussion on the nature of language, as well as the role language plays in a certain culture. This project has altogether four chapters. In the first chapter, the translator gives a brief introduction to this project, which includes the introduction to the background information of this translation project and its value.Chapter Two is mainly about the introduction to the original text—the author’s profile,summary and analysis of the original text. Chapter Three is the core of this project,which discusses the choosing of guiding translation principle, the difficulties in translation practice, as well as main translation strategies the translator uses in this project, namely, “zero translation”, “amplification”, “restructuring”. Detailed examples are also given in the elaboration of each strategy respectively. Chapter Four,the end of this project, is about the summary of this project, which contains the translator’s experience accumulated in doing this report, inspirations to the translator and the questions to be solved.
