| Since the first album The Fame was released in 2008, Lady Gaga, an American pop singer, made a sensation in popular music around the world, won supports from a large number of celebrities and fans within a short time, and rapidly become the icon of popular culture in the 21 stcentury.Different from others female singers, Lady Gaga seemingly is not congruous with the mainstream culture, with her bizarre appearances and ever-changing styles,but she enjoys great success and greatly impacts popular culture.Therefore, in postmodern context, this thesis analyzes how Lady Gaga subverts what are conventional to her advantage to form her peculiarity from three aspects like fashion, body performance and social media. Through the above analysis,the author believes that Lady Gaga’s strange fashion draws public’s attention,deconstructs traditional fashion codes and conveys significant meanings. And then representation of female body in her music videos fights against patriarchal society and conveys profound meanings. Finally her skillful use of social media wins supports of fans. Because of the correlation between her peculiarity and works, the public is likely to create identification with what she really wants to express. Step by step, she constructs her own image, which is worshiped by most people in mainstream culture. |
