A Study On "Yu" And "Yan" In Zhan Guo Ce

As an important historical book in the Pre-Qin period, Zhan Guo Ce provides valuable literature materials for the study of history, society, ideology, culture and language characteristics during the Warring States Period. This article focuses on the function word "yu" and "yan" in Zhan Guo Ce, provides a detailed analysis and description of the grammatical function, then induces the grammatical features in order to be helpful in ancient Chinese grammar research.The full article consists of the following components:The first part (the introduction) briefly introduces various aspects of the study of Zhan Guo Ce, especially in grammar research, and sketches the research status of preposition in ancient Chinese together with "yu" and "yan", and illustrates the purpose, significance and methods of the research.The second part comprises two chapters. The chapter one classifies and analyzes preposition "yu" in Zhan Guo Ce, and discusses the concealing and revealing of preposition "yu" between verbs and nouns; the chapter two gives a detailed analysis and description of "yan", lists and summaries the different part of speech and usage when "yan" as modal particle, adverb, auxiliary verb, pronoun and double-meaning word.The third part (the conclusion) firstly presents the condition of occurrence and characteristics of "yu" and "yan" in Zhan Guo Ce, then compares to other references which "yu" and "yan" in the Pre-Qin period, in order to explore the change of "yu" and "yan" in language developmental progression.
