The infant raising business had different levels of development in different dynasties in China. In Qing Dynasty, the infant raising business obtained a significant development.All kinds of infant-raising organizations emerged in an endless stream. By the joint efforts of the nation and society, infant-raising organizations of Zhejiang in the Qing Dynasty also obtained great development, both in quantity and scale.In this paper, taking Zhejiang local chronicles in Qing Dynasty as the basic data, combined with previous research results,the general situation, the development organization mode and the related personnel of Zhejiang infant-raising in the Qing Dynasty will be talked.The first part discussed the local customs of drowning babies in Zhejiang in Qing Dynasty. As a social corrupt customs, drowning babies was widespread in Zhejiang in the Qing Dynasty, especially for baby girls. The high number and proportion were recorded in the various types of literature. The cause of this phenomenon were mainly the following three aspects:the economy reason, expensive dowry and the preference of boys to girls. The social consequences caused by the bad habits were in many aspects. The bad habits also became a prominent social problem in Zhejiang in the Qing Dynasty.The second part analyzed the actual state of the local infant-raising operation organization in Zhejiang in the Qing Dynasty. As an important infrastructure and institutions to save the baby’s, infant-raising organizations set up in Zhejiang could be found in every county and showed a flourishing situation. Infant-raising organizations, especially the baby’s Foundling Hospital had formulating relevant system in adoption, tending method, internal management and the use of funds.A fairly complete operating mechanism came into being.Section three explores the role of Zhejiang local government and social forces of the Qing Dynasty in infant-raising organizations. Infant-Raising business is a kind of philanthropy that government, gentry, business all participate in it. As for the tissue types, it can be divides into official oriented, folk-oriented and Officials and the public collaboration. Officials and the public collaboration is the main form. No one can deny the fact that the gentry has its leader position in the infant-raising organizations.The forth chapter discusses the social significance of Zhejiang local infant-raising organizations’ development in Qing dynasty. On the one hand, the prosperity of Zhejiang local infant-raising organizations, to a certain extent, help solve the problem caused by unattended babies, thus drowning abandoned wind got partial remission. This is an important way to ease the implementation of the class contradictions and moral education, but because of the low development of the productive forces, local infant-raising organizations has its limited social effection. On the other hand, today’s child welfare development can also draw some inspiration from the Zhejiang infant-raising organizations mode of operation and management.
