| Madness is the disorder behavior of humans’ spirits and thoughts, which reaches individuals’ deep inside and disobeys the rational system, as a result they were usually expelled from the rational society. As a kind of lesion morphology in the social life,madness not only attracts the attention of the psychologists and the physicians, but also the sociologist. In the field of literature, madness gives the writers rich material,on the other hand, literature works let the madness present rich significance in diverse cultural context.Writers portrayed so many images of madness which have unique features and spiritual connotation in fictions of the New Era, that made great contribution to the prosperity of literature of the New Era. Associated with the background of the New Era, images of the madness, ignored by the real world, which show various features and unique aesthetic characteristics has multiple significance.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, the images of madness in New Era fictions are analysed from three aspects:the types, artistic features and and the significance.Medical madness shows pathological characteristics because of rational oppression.Philosophical madness deviates from the rational, whose behavior seemingly absurd can expose the disadvantages of rational order, its self-destructive ways triggers philosophical questions.
