This thesis is a translation report on the translation practice of the novel The Year of the Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes, a famous American writer for children’s book. The thesis selects Chapter One and Chapter Two of the novel as the source text, and provides the corresponding translation in Chinese. The novel is written for children with an inspirational theme through a narration around the protagonist named Billy. Billy is a boy and is injured accidently in a trip in a summer vacation, with subsequent symptoms of the fear of losing memory, being anxious and indifferent to people around him. It is through series of cheerful and interesting events that he rebuilds up his confidence in life.On the basis of the characteristics of children’s literature, and with the guidance of the theory of translator’s subjectivity, the thesis attempts to illustrate the lively and vivid feature of children’s language in the source text, and tries to convey the equivalent literary features connotation with the original novel. In the process of translation, the thesis exerts the translator’s subjectivity and adopts the translation methods like annotation, amplification, conversion, division and combination, and further analyzes the translation difficulties and their solutions in the translation practice.Through this translation practice, the thesis author realizes the complexity in translating children’s literary novels, and also, proposes that the theory of a translator’s subjectivity has important instructive meaning to the translation practice of children’s literature, because it can faithfully and elegantly represents the original content and style. In addition, a good translator should equip with a good commend of two languages and plenty of cultural knowledge, should acquire more knowledge of translation theories, and should advance the translation ability in various translation activities.
