| News and literature are antagonistic categories in the traditional views. They are opposite in nature because one is about the objectivity and authenticity and one is about subjectivity and imagination. On the other hand, they are different on the function:one is about the information and practical, when the other is emotional and aesthetic. News professionalism is a typical representative of traditional views, which is forming a set of operating rules with the exclusion of literariness. But through the researching of the literary theory, the boundaries between news and literature are broken. Saussure pointed out the intransitive nature of languages that languages cannot reach the reality so that texts cannot be a transparent mirror which reflects objective world directly; Jakobson pointed out the instability of the boundary between literature and non-literature; Hayden White considered history as a kind of fiction; Roland Barthes considered news as narrative works. Finally, the literariness in news was found in the perspective of modern literary theory. The news can’t be separated from the literature completely, although the two are different. And when we go a step further, literariness will be found distinctly in news’practical process. Based on the modern narrative theory, news is a story-telling style and kind of narrative. Then news is a process of words selection and creation with the discursive observation. Like the literary text, news is a linguistic activity with several layers of meaning. Therefore, by means of literariness in essence, news is pursuing not only the true, but also the beautiful and the good. However, literariness may bring about negative influence in which the news will turn to vulgarization and kitsch. It is deserved to be researched and on the alert. |
