The materials of the translation report are chosen from the book China’s Second Continent: How A Million Migrants Are Building A New Empire in Africa written by American journalist Howard W. French. The book is recommended by “International Communications” which is directed by China International Publishing Group. The translation report consists of four parts as follows: task description, translation procedures, case study, and summary. Task description includes the source of material to be translated and the introduction of the author and the book. Translation procedures introduces pre-translation preparation, and text check, polish and finalization. The translator read the material several times and summarized its characteristics. After looking up the book of Africa’s history and the information of China’s aids to Africa, the translator read the material again. During the translation, the translator used two translation methods-”literal translation” and “free translation”, and she chose different kinds of translation tools. After finishing the work, the translator revised the translation. Case study, the core of the translation report, introduces the ideas and skills of translation. In this part, the translator mainly analyzed the translation process and translation skills from the aspects of vocabulary, syntax and culture. At last, the summary represents the translator’s experiences, gains, and weaknesses.
