| Plant patterns play an important role in the field of the decorative arts. Althoughplant patterns in contemporary design are seen as complementary decorative patterns onsubjects, such as utensils, silks and buildings. However, during the Tang Dynasty, plantpatterns held a dominant design position as a modern innovation to design choices. Andmany scholars and various researches have studied the origins and development of thehistorical conditions of plant patterns; but many modern designs related to TangDynasty plant patterns are lacking creative thinking in current society. And the designactually should combine the design with the requirement of the modern society toexplore the value and connotation of the traditional plant patterns in modern design.The paper aims to study the artistic features and value of the plant patterns basedon the culture and history background of Tang Dynasty by analyzing plant patterns ofTang Dynasty in form features, artistic language, and culture connotations. Because ofthe influences of the Tang Dynasty’s open socio-political policy that absorbed foreigninfluences alongside its own national patterns, Tang Dynasty plant pattern forms a newartistic language in conjunction with an imported art. As a result, it enriched the themeand style pattern of traditional plants in China. Creative thinking and methods changedalongside this design change. The plant patterns of Tang Dynasty style reflect gracefuland beautiful patterns. And the use of bright and beautiful and the artistic characteristicsand value color are rich in ideology. Tang Dynasty plant patterns were always full ofvitality, giving a person an aesthetic enjoyment of vision. The paper will not onlysummarized the developmental history of Tang Dynasty plant patterns, characteristics and value, but also attempt to integrate with modern design to explore its newdevelopment space and path for traditional patterns.In the paper, plant patterns of Tang Dynasty are regarded as the starting point.Further systematic study of the historical origins of the Tang Dynasty plant patterns,including artistic characteristics, values, and aesthetic features are followed, andultimately how to combine with the modern design perfectly will provide an innovativevalue to the study of plant patterns. The purpose of the paper is to encourage thepreservation of Chinese traditional patterns and elements in modern design and explorehow to perfectly combine the traditional elements with modern design in order to createthe works with Chinese characteristics. |
