The thesis attempts to illustrate the “SUPER FLAT” Display Design works in the view asthe architecture analysis. Through the research of origin and history, style characteristics andtechnique details, the author summarizes a set of new methodology——“contradictions andbalances” and applies it to a real case: the sculpture museum. Simultaneously, the methodologyoffers a theory support for generation of the future design system. The first part of the thesis is the demonstration of the concept “SUPER FLAT”, includingthe explanation of nouns graphic concept from Murakami Takashi and cross boundary concept:fashion design and architecture design. Meanwhile, it introduces the establishment and thehistory of SANAA(the architectural firm).Throughout the preliminary analysis of perceptualfeatures(perceptual and rational, shady and outstanding, conventional and contemporary, exteriorand interior, light and dignified, artificial and natural),the author initially summarize themethodology “contradictions and balances” for this experimental subject. The second part of the thesis is the explanation for the feasibility of “contradictions andbalances” architecture cases, including functionality and technicality. As the functionality aspect,it is including spatial frame, the fence form, ratio scale and the construction of platform; As thefunctionality technicality aspect, it is including the light roof, the empty ground, the slightelevator, the surfaced-walls. Throughout the preliminary analysis of perceptual features inrational features, the author confirms the feasibility of the design methodology “contradictionsand balances”.The third part of the thesis combines the summary from the former two parts and applies theknowledge in the real subject. First of all, the author analysis the display design in sculpturemuseums and the information from the sculptor. Then it generates the display scheme and themethodology “contradictions and balances” will be applied in building form and massing, spatialstreamline, exhibition areas and display details.Last but not the least, throughout the exploration of “SUPER FLAT”, the author forms themethodology “contradictions and balances” and applies it to the experimental case. Throughoutthe process which is theory guiding practice and practice testing theory, the author will get theexperience and the thesis will offer the reference for future display design.
