Gao Xingjian is a versatile literary artist and the ethnic Chinese who won theNobel Prize in Literature firstly. His works have a broad range of topics, featuring aunique artistic style. Although Gao Xingjian’s winning of the prize is controversial, Itis undeniable that he won the first Noble Prize in Literature for Chinese writing andthis is the victory of Chinese linguistics and literature. Gao Xingjian is a writer whohas strong art conscious and he strives to innovate from theory to practice. From thetime of his winning the Nobel Prize in Literature to this day, more and more peoplestudy on his works especially his novels, covering the perspectives of narratology,philosophy, culturology, comparative literature and so on, but most of the researchesinvolves his works of Soul Mountain only, and another works called One Man’s Bibleis seldom mentioned, needless to say the research of the artistic form based on thesetwo works. Comparing to other novels, such novels as Soul Mountain and One Man’sBible can better present his unique artistic style and creativeness, his flexibility in theuse of Chinese language and his innovation of expression techniques. On the base ofthese, this essay chooses Soul Mountain and One Man’s Bible as the object of study,applies Gao Xingjian’s writing theory to analyze the artistic form of his works andexplores the artistic practice value of his novels.The essay applies the strategies of text analysis and summary to explore theartistic form of his novels. The first part analyzes Gao Xingjian’s novels’ narrativestrategy of “grammatical person replaces person, narrative person transforms”; thesecond part analyzes the linguistic form of Gao Xingjian’s novels; the third partanalyzes the structure form of Gao Xingjian’s novels from the perspective of personconstruction and integration of various literature form; the last part explores theartistic practice value of Gao Xingjian’s novels.
