Analyze On The Artistic Image And Value Of Main Character In Opera "Sacrifice"

Sacrifice is a grand original opera created and brought on stage by National Center for thePerforming Arts（NCPA）along with numerous creators in chief. The creating team is quite powerful. thefirst performance on June24,2011. NCPA invited famous artists from all fields to co-creating, such asJingzhi CHU (poet, playwright), Lei LEI (composer), Xinyi CHEN (director), Guangjian GAO (stage artistdesign), Jia LV (conductor), Ruiding LI (chief costume designer for the Olympic Opening Ceremony),Vladimir Luca Xie Weiqi (chief lighting designer for Russian Marlinsky Theater) and other first-rateartists. What Sacrifice reveals is Chinese people’s integrity, morality and strength of characters. Theadaption and performance of this opera also shows the retrospect and promotion of Chinese traditionalvalues. It is also a part of the original works on the history of Chinese opera.Focusing itself on portraying the personalities and psychology of the characters, this opera follows thetragedy style of western grand opera, integrates family affection and oath, justice and viciousness, thusexpresses the character’s inner feelings with the maximize function of music. This paper aims at the artisticcreation of the original opera Sacrifice created by NCPA, centers on the leading character Ying CHENG,uses the principle line of entrust the orphan-save the orphan-adopt the orphan to elicit other main characters.Textual explanation, synthesis and analytical method are used in this paper. The author focuses on the mainarias expressing character’s musical image, researches and studies this opera from three aspects, i.e., operareview, characters and artistic value, hoping to provide guidance and inspiration for the study of operas forthe similar type. on the one hand, to give the reader a deeper and comprehensive understanding of the opera;on the other hand, to help the singers express accurately the inner feelings when performing and give abetter interpretation of this work.This paper extends the discussion from the following parts. Part I: introduction part, mainly explainsthe reasons for choosing this topic for research, the significance of the research and related overview. It alsosummarizes the development history of Chinese opera since nineteen twentieth. Part II: Analyzing thecreation of opera Sacrifice in the method of synthesis, mainly including three aspects, i.e., creation background, characters and plot, creation features. Part III, the artistic image of the main figures ofSacrifice, is the key part of this paper. It analyzes the dramatic and musical image of the main charactersand also elaborates their spiritual value. Part IV: analyzing the artistic value of the original opera Sacrifice.Part V: conclusion part. It summarizes the creation highlight and significance of opera Sacrifice.
