Zha Shibiao(1615-1698),who is skilled in poetry,painting andcalligraphy,is an important landscape painter in The late Ming and earlyQing Dynasty,and one representative painter of the Xin’an-school.Thistext analyzes the style of the paintings of Zha Shibiao on the base ofextensive collcetion and related documents,explores the the causes ofthem,above of which will give a more understanding of Zha Shibiao’s artof painting.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part summarizes thethree characteristics of the Zha Shibiao’s paintings:clean,wild,flooded.Then it analyzes the three stages of the change of the paintings.The secondpart discusses the influence of geographical conditions and mentalenvironment on the formation of the style of the paintings.The third partdiscusses the factors of the painting inheritance,which focus on theinfluence of the paintings of Hong Ren,Ni Zan,Mi Fu,Mi Youren and DongQichang.
