On Translators’ Translation In Small-sized Translation Company From Perspective Of Eco-translatology

Translation has a long history. It is one of the most important communicativeactivities among various nationalities; also it is one of the oldest professions in humansociety. Nowadays, the world has ushered in the era of globalization; translation hasbecome an important way of communication among countries and nationalities. SinceChina’s Reform and Opening-up, with exchanges increasing all over the world,translation communication has increased significantly. According to ChineseTranslation Enterprise Development Survey Report and Chinese interpreter livingcondition survey report published in2011, more than5300translation companieswith a small home office, had been registered in Chinese mainland, and more than600thousand translators.Eco-translatology, a brand-new theory put forward by Chinese scholar HuGengshen, demonstrates that Darwin’s natural selection and evolutionism isapplicable to translation theory in possibility and feasibility. Its basic theoryframework is based on the following dominant idea: translation is an activity ofadaptation and selection; the best translation is a natural accumulation of translators’multidimensional adaptation and selection in the translation environment; for thetranslator, the fittest survive and develop, and for the target language, the fittestsurvive and take effect. Translation eco-environment refers to a world of text, originallanguage and target language, which is a holist of the language, culture, interaction,society, author, reader and consignor. Eco-translatology, a booming subject for adecade, provides a macro and holistic perspective for translator and text study. Itsupposes that translation is an activity of the translator’s adaptation to the translationeco-environment, and clearly emphasizes translator’s centeredness. Exactly speaking,translatology is a holistic study of whole translation ecological environment; itattempts to give a new description and interpretation to translation in a narrative wayof Ecology, from the perspective of translatology.This thesis tries to apply eco-translatology into the study of translators’translations in small-sized translation company in China. Firstly, translator’s translational environment and their problems are analyzed; secondly, translator’sadaptation and selection is explicitly described in this thesis. Translationaleco-environment translator has to adapt consists of many aspects, and the authordivided them into linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. Translator’s selection consistsof translation methods, translation texts, and translator’s global consciousness andsubject consciousness; thirdly, a translation deviation—translation errors andmistranslation is demonstrated in the thesis.Finally a conclusion is drawn that translators in small-sized translation companycannot adapt to translational eco-environment well, and their translation skills needimproving. It tends to provide suggestions for the company managers, translationteaching in colleges and universities, minority language translation talents cultivation,and translators’ subjectivity.
