Practice Report Of Consecutive Interpretation Of "Mock Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan’s Press Conference"

With the rapid development of the globalization, foreign exchange andmultilateral cooperation among countries, interpreting is playing an increasinglyindispensable role in foreign affairs. Nowadays, interpreting, as one of thecompulsory courses for English interpreting majors, has helped students with theirinterpreting skills. Mock interpretation conference, as one of the training course ofsimulated circumstances, trains students in the form of conference, and creates ameeting atmosphere. This study mode educates students to learn interpreters’professional skills and psychological qualities and help them accumulate theirinterpreters’ experience.This report is a practice report of being a consecutive interpreter via simulating“Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan’s Press Conference on February24th2005”.We made this mock conference by watching the conference recordings and readingrelated materials. This thesis consists of four parts: pre-interpretation, interpretationprocess, case analysis and summary. It discusses comprehensively the background ofthis meeting, the pre-interpretation work before this conference, analyzes the cases inthis activity and figures out the problems of interpreter during the presentation, sharesthe correspondent solutions to these problems.In conclusion, this report points out some required capabilities that a professionalinterpreter should have and reflections of this mock interpretation task, which wouldlead us to the road of being a professional interpreter.
