After an in-depth study of Ezra pound’s “three principles of imagist”, it isnot difficult to find the complexity of pound’s language view, which is a significant clue toevaluate him correctly. Ezra pound had greatly benefited fromtranslating Chinese ancient poems. The interpretation of Chinese ancient poems made theimage and artistic conception passed to American Modern Literary. Pound made use of theartistic skills he got from Chinese ancient poems to construct his own creation, which has ahigh aesthetic value. There is a close relationship between the establishment of Pound’sImagism theoretical principles with the time and culture. As the core of Pound’s poetrytheory, his poetic theory embodied in the concrete theory and his practice, including thecreation and translation and got a high level in the field of literary criticism. This paper discusses the practice of Pound’s poetic theory from three aspects: theconstruction of Pound’s poetic theory, the concept of Pound’s translation and his literarytheory, and gradually in-depth study Pound’s poetic theory in constructing the image theory. This paper uses the comparative method, the inductive method and the comprehensiveanalysis to compare Pound’s poetic theory with the classical Chinese poetic theory andexplore the development of the imagist in using the image of Chinese ancient poems.Pound’s poetry translation theory plays an important part in the imagist theory. Whentranslating Chinese ancient poetry, Pound did not pursue the principle of literal translation, but the principle of translating by his own understanding to strengthen the poetrypicturesque and emotional expression, which made the imagist poetical theory developedin the field of translation. The last part of the paper studies the concept of pound’s literarytheory from the perspective of theory, and makes Pound‘s imagist theory associated withsome of his other literary theory, summarizing the overall context of pound imagist poetictheory.
