Study On Shangsi Poetry During The Wei,Jin,Southern And Northern Dynasties

The Shangsi Festival custom can be traced back to the spring purificationactivities that people bath in the river in the Spring an Autumn period. During the Wei,Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, due to the ruling class pay high attention toShangsi Festival that makes it as the country’s major celebrating festival. With thedevelopment of the society and the progress of people’s thoughts, primitive thinkingof purification custom gradually turns into formalization in Wei, Jin, Southern andNorthern period, which increasingly become a national recreational activity. Not onlythe customs are increased and the entertainments are varied, but also because theShangsi Festival comes in March, with the coming of spring, in the era of literaryconsciousness, scholars take this time to get outdoors, close to natural landscapes, astrong desire to poetize is unavoidably produced in their heart, so a large number ofShangsi poetry are born under such conditions.Shangsi poetry is a kind of typical Festival poetry, but not as the common poetrywhich focus on revealing festival activities, the subjects of it are relatively broad, bothhave the description of grand feast of the upper class and eulogium of the ruling class,there are even a lot of poems depict the scenery of the nature and express the poet’sfeelings. The former can be seen as the royal Banquet poetry in the festivalbackground, and the latter almost is the metaphysical poetry which admired by theliterati class, with Lanting poems as the model. In order to show Shangsi poetry’soverall style and characteristics, this paper discusses the internal relations of Shangsipoetry and the other forms of poetry, also analyzes the forms and typical imageries ofShangsi poetry through inducing the main content of it. In terms of the Wei, Jin,Southern and Northern dynasties, Shangsi poetry’s characteristics are variable indifferent stages. And each kind of style shows both the transmission of specific socialclimate of the ages, to a certain extent, also reflects the dynamic process ofdevelopment of ancient Chinese poetry. On the basis of researching the cause of formation and development of Shangsi poetry, to divide it’s style in the certaindynasty, can not only makes us more clear to grasp its development vein, alsobeneficial to spy on the content of the ideological and cultural aspects of social life inthe Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern dynasties period.Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern dynasties are the period that Shangsi poetryproduce, develop, and achieve the prime time. As the combination of the festivalcustom and poetry, Shangsi poetry not only enrich the content of Wei, Jin, Southernand Northern dynasties’ poetry, open the function of the performance of the classicalpoetry in China, but also reveal to the posterity of the festival activities and social lifein this period, with a distinctive brand of the time.
