Based on the project translating Preface, Chapter One and Chapter Two of The Economics of Recreation, Leisure and Tourism written by John Tribe, the Co-Chair of the UN World Tourism Organization Education Council, this report analyzes common difficulties as well as possible strategies and solutions in English-Chinese translation. The original text introduces an interdisciplinary study method. Scholars at home and abroad have been studying the development of recreation, leisure and tourism, which is a fascinating field of study for economics. There are numerous translation works on tourism in China; however, most of them focus on tourism introduction to some certain places or regions. It is found in this report that connection between recreation, leisure and tourism industries and economics can be a field of study. To prepare for the translation, the report attaches great importance to original text analysis, the main tools to assist the translation task and the solution to term translation and relative materials research. It also presents the difficult points of translation by selecting typical examples for further analysis from the following three perspectives: impersonal and personal subject, information redundancy and supplement and cultural background. Based on the analysis of the report, the following findings are put forward:(1) full preparation of translation is of great importance for translation practice;(2) as translation is a kind of communication between different cultures, it is necessary to choose different translation strategies to make the translation version more accessible to the target readers;(3) it is suggested that translators should have some relative disciplines backgrounds and a wide scope of encyclopedic knowledge will help to catch the points of the author and reduce readers’ misunderstanding.
