On The Translation Of Peace Is The Way(Chapter3-4)

This is a translation report. This report uses the translation of the chapter3and chapter4of Peace Is the Way:Bringing War and Violence to an End as the source text, whose titles are "Beyond Toxic Nationalism" and "The Myth of Security". Peace Is the Way was written by Indian-American author Deepak Chopra. Since the book was first published in2005by Harmony Books, there has not been a Chinese version of it.This is a book about, how we, as common people, can make peace for the world as well as for ourselves. In the excerpts, chapter3makes a thorough analysis about the toxic effects of nationalism and chapter4points out the defects of core beliefs behind security.This report is composed of four parts:1) translation project description, including the background, target, significance and structure of the report;2) text analysis, introducing the author and summarizing the book;3) translation difficulties and translation method, including the preparation before translating and the translation method dealing with the difficulties. The report is based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to deal with the difficult points, and adopts four translation methodologies, which are free translation, supplementation translation, omission translation and separating translation;4) conclusion, consisting of experience gained from this project and the unsolved issues.
