Although the main task of college students’ is to learn, their economicindependence is also worthing attention. But research on this subject is relatively lack indomestic or abroad. This paper tries hard to make profound study on the collegestudents’ economic independence from the following two aspects.Part I. College Students’ Economic Independence Motivation. This study putsforward the concept of economic independence motivation, and the preliminary scale ofthe college students’ Economic Independence Motivation is made according to thestructural dimension of motivation in Xu’s theoretical model of healthy motivation,together with open interview and analysis of specialist. For281college students of4universities, the items and exploratory factor in the preliminary scale are analyzed. For913college students of Sichuan Normal University, the reliability, validity andconfirmatory factory in formal scale are analyzed. And last the characteristics ofeconomic independence motivation among913college students are analyzed in depth.Part II. College Students’ Economic Independence Behavior. According to thestep,open interview, put forward a preliminary definition, half open questionnaire for110college students, the preliminary scale of the college students’ EconomicIndependence Behavior is made.The preliminary scale and formal questionnaire of thetwo are measured at the same time, respectively. Finally the characteristics of collegestudents’ economic independent behavior are carried on the thorough analysis.The result indicates that:(1) The main factors of college students’ economic independence motivationinclude the four aspects: desire, plan, action and persistence. It’s proved that the fourfactors can fit the presupposed model; thus the questionnaire used has good reliability and validity, which is an appropriate tool to evaluate the characteristics of economicindependence motivation.(2) The characteristics of college students’ economic independence motivation:First, the overall level of economic independence motivation among college students ishigh. The "desire" motive and"action" motive are relatively strong,"plan" motive,"persistence" motive are weaker. Second, the economic independence "desire"motivation of male student is significantly higher than female, while the "action"motivation is significantly lower. Third, suburban students are significantly higher thanurban students on the "action" motivation. Fourth, the overall level of economicindependence motivation, the "desire" motivation and the "persistence" motivation areincreasing with grade higher. Fifthly, the lower the family’s per capita income is, thestronger the "action" motivation is. Sixth, the longer one live alone, the stronger the"plan" motivation is.(3) The main factors of college students’ economic independence behavior includethe two big aspects, Money management behavior include cost management,expenditure management and investment behavior. Making money behavior includeloan, doing small business, the number of obtaining scholarships and part-time workbehavior.(4) The characteristics of college students’ economic independence behavior: First,the overall level of economic independence behavior among college students is low.Second, suburban students significantly do more part-time work. Third, the gradedifference is significant in total score, part-time work, doing small business, the numberof obtaining scholarships and investment behavior, in which the fourth year students getthe highest score, and the following ones are the third year students, second year studentand first year students. Fourth, the lower the family’s per capita income is, the higherthe total score of college students’ economic independence behavior is. Sixth, the longerone live alone, the stronger of college students’ economic independence behavior is.(5) The relations of college students’ economic independence motivation andeconomic independence behavior. Motivation perform positive correlation with andhave prediction effect on cost management, expenditure management and part-timework behavior to some extent.
