There are nearly three hundred years of Ming Court, Northern Mongoliais undoubtedly a serious threat. Ming strengthens constantly northern military facilitiesto resist threats from Mongolia, while seeking other means or methods. Among them,Ming controls of the horse market solving border issues in a certain extent. Therefore,the rise and fall of horse market reflect the side changes in the relationship between theMing Court and Mongolia, which is also concerned by academic circles. This article isbased on historical data and the results of previous, system combing the early Mingnorthern situation and changes in the horse market, to further explore the rise and fallof the horse market. The horse market is not only the traditional economic and tradeexchanges in the national farming and nomadic ethnic, but also political overtones ofstability of the border by the rulers of Ming Court.Besides the introduction, this article divides into four parts. The first part mainlydiscusses the change of the northern frontier situation and the Mongolia’s militarypower, the Ming Court by force can not be completely conquer Mongolia, turn to seekthe balance of economy. The second part analyses the establishment of the horsemarket and three important developments. The third part discusses the pony prices ofthree side horse cities, the horse trade volume changes before and after the change ofCivil Castle and Tributary Altan and product ban of the horse market, evolution ofthe development of the relationship between Ming Court and Mongolia.The horse is not only an economic policy of the Ming Court, but a special borderpolicy. The fourth part explores the geographical location of the horse market, the tradein tea, reward Mongolia’s envoys of Tribute trade and the army positions to the north,profoundly reveals the essence of political horse.
