With the acceleration of the economic development and the opening to the outside world of China, bilingual public signs play a more important role. English public signs undertake responsibility to prompt, direct, limit and forbid foreigners’ behaviors. However, mistakes and nonstandard examples in public signs translation can be found everywhere and the translation quality really worries us. It has not only effected on the foreigners’daily life in China, but also had bad influence on the international image of our country. Therefore, establishing bilingual corpus and making norms for the translation of public signs have strong realistic significance.This report is based on the corpus of public signs in Tianjin. Under the supervisor’s guidance, the author has taken part in the construction of public sign corpus in amusement and shopping places in Tianjin. The team has collected data after analyzing features of target text, determining personnel division and operation procedures and concluding translation strategies and mistakes. The whole project can be divided into3stages and this report emphasizes on the translation corpus of public signs in amusement and shopping places in Tianjin.This report is divided into7parts:the first part is the introduction to the basic study object and content as well as the research review and researching significance of the public sign corpus of Tianjin; the second part is the introduction to the project, mainly presenting target text, researching background, and the construction situation of the public sign corpus of Tianjin; then the third part introduces the project course according to three stages respectively; in the following case analysis, the author classifies translation strategies, analyzes mistakes encountered in the project and concludes the causes and solutions; the fifth part summarizes the requirement of occupational qualities for the translators in the practice and the sixth part discusses the difficulties encountered in the project and make self-examination and improvement; and the last part is the conclusion of the whole translation project. |
