GeFei’s Writting Of Utopia——take Trilogy Of JIANGNAN For Instance

GeFei published in succession the novel "JIANG NAN trilogy" respectively named REN MAN TAO HUA (2004), SHAN HE RU MENG (2007) and CHUN JIN JIANG NAN (2011). He changed his avant-garde posture, and began to inquire into different intellectuals with regard to construction of Utopia concept and explorations of practice in modern times,1950s and1960s and contemporary era. In REN MIAN TAO HUA, the early intellectuals present in the process of exploration two different form of Utopia concept——"look back" and "look forward". In SHAN HE RU MENG, take communism as a model, and try to realize industrialization of the socialist country. TAN Gongda’s construction in MeiCheng is the preliminary attempt about Utopia of communism, while HuaJiaShe constructed by GUO Congnian is deemed to be the socialist rudiment. In CHUN JIN JIANG NAN, intellectuals turn to seek personalized Utopia, and present a status of keeping watch the spirit. Unfortunately, their searches of spirit are all disillusioned:WANG Guancheng’s "Arcadia" was destroyed by internal strife, ZHANG Jiyuan and LU Xiumi’s "unitary world" was suppressed disastrously, TAN Gongda’s assumption of industrialized country gave up halfway, GUO Congnian’s people’s communes in communism society lost its original intention. However, in the contemporary era of economic development, Utopia becomes move towards the trend of transformation, dissimilation and even be utilized. In this age, intellectuals less and less play a part in society. Their only way is pay attention to their’s own moral uplift. The trilogy of GeFei is not to show the failure history of Utopia, it means to recall and hope for these intellectuals’spirit explorations.This paper uses a method of intensive reading of the text to systematically organize the novels, and deeply excavates the change of concept, practice and spirit characteristic in different periods in order to discuss the existent significance of Utopia.The paper consists of four chapters:in the first chapter, I define the basic concepts of Utopia and unscrambles the historical development of Utopia, and analyze different forms of Utopia in Chinese and occidental context; in the second chapter, I analyze the Utopia assumption of "look back" and "look forward" by the early intellectuals such as LUKan, WANG Guancheng, ZHANG Jiyuan and LU Xiumi and expound the reason why their practice come to nothing according to REN MIAN TAO HUA; in the third chapter, I discuss intellectuals such as TAN Gongda and GUO Congnian encounter the problem in the process of exploration about Utopia of communism based on SHAN HE RU MENG; in the fourth chapter, I elucidate the fact that the dream of Utopia get decline and how the intellectuals such as WANG Yuanqing, LvZhu and TAN Duanwu face the problem on the contemporary era.
