Research On Guangxi Medical Assistance Of Aiding Vietnam

In August5,1964, US used the excuse of their ships were attacked by the torpedo boat of The Democratic Republic of Vietnam to make the so-called’The Gulf of Tonkin incident’. Since then, People’s Republic of China resolutely decided to aid Vietnam to resist the US. Chinese government sent troops to support the direct fight to Vietnam to against the United States, as well as a lot of weapons and other war materiel which were provided freely. In1978, according to the prevailing international market prices, the total value of China’s assistance to Vietnam had reached about$20billion. Apart from military and economic aid, China had provided medical assistance to Vietnamese. It also opened some border hospitals to receive Vietnamese patients. As one of the Vietnam’s bordering province, Guangxi provinces took on a lot of aiding work in the medical field and made great contribution and set up a field hospital to cure the Vietnamese in Pingxiang as well as sent several medical teams to Vietnam. Guilin Nanxishan Hospital became a prominent representative in Guangxi medical assistances to Vietnam. In a manner of speaking, Guangxi had made its great contribution. This dissertation’s systematical analysis to Guangxi medical assistance to Vietnamese in Chinese practices of Aiding Vietnam to resist the US is based on the extensive collection of related files and the literature data of the field visit to Guilin Nanxishan hospital. The main object of the dissertation is Guilin Nanxishan hospital.As one of the three foreign national cooperation (the other were the Friendship Hospital and China-Japan Friendship Hospital), Guilin Nanxishan Hospital was specifically set up to receive Vietnamese wounded and patients in China and undertook the major task of Guangxi Medical assistance to Vietnam. Nanxishan hospital had cured more than5,000Vietnamese patients from1969to1975, and helped them back to the front-line rehabilitation to ensure victory of Vietnam War and against the United States for their national salvation. Nanxishan Hospital had made a significant contribution. Under the extremely difficult conditions of social economic, Chinese government mobilized a large number of resources to make sure the building and running of the Nanxishan Hospital. The doctors and nurses came from over100organizations. During the operation of the hospital, a number of Vietnamese leaders visited the hospital and gave the hospital their high evaluation. Those who have received treatment and returned to Vietnam both expressed their gratitude to the staffs of Nanxishan hospital. Although Nanxishan hospital affected by the deteriorating of Sino-Vietnamese Relations and ended its work in1976, its historical achievement of curing Vietnamese patients is worthy of recognition. After the Vietnam War end, Nanxishan Hospital continued to play an important role in the health caring of Guangxi Province. Although the Sino-Vietnamese relations experienced fluctuations, bilateral relations back to normal, good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation step into a new stage in1990s. In the new era, the Nanxishan Hospital provides a new bridge and link to the friendly exchanges between China and Vietnam, which helps to promote Guangxi Province’s regional advantages and regional cooperation, also to expand the channels of the communication and areas of cooperation between China and Vietnam.
