The China-ASEAN Expo is the only state-level exposition in China which is co-sponsoredby governments of China and ten other foreign countries. Concerning fields like trade, service,investment, the exposition has boosted the economies of Beibu gulf and ASEAN countries sinceits establishment. However, there is no specialized corpus of translation for the exposition. Basedon the personal experience as a volunteer translator involved in two China-ASEAN newstranslation, the author of this dissertation herein discusses how to develop an effective smallcorpus of translation for China-ASEAN Expo.This dissertation first recalls the history and achievements of corpus development, as wellas the importance of corpus on translation teaching and practice. Then the author analyzes theproportion of the news translation. Thereatfer he measures every step by the statistics. He finallydescribes in details the procedure of developing a translation corpus and tests it in the translationpractice of the10^Expo.From functions to work flow chart, all the major parts of the hot corpus softwares would bespotlighted in this dissertation. Those parts of the hot corpus sotfwares which could be used fortranslation related to the China-ASEAN Expo remain, and the other would be deleted from theauthor’s blueprint. Moreover, the author adds some new modules to it, such as data buffer zone,user account, compatible port, encryption etc.Since it is the first attempt for the author to develop a specialized translation corpus, manychallenges and problems occur. The author does hope his practice and this dissertation couldprovide reference to other people who may try to tackle questions such as how to use corpussotfware for translation and how to develop a specialized corpus of translation for theChina-ASEAN Expo. |
