Wang Xiangchun was the main representative figure in the poetic circles ofShan Zou (the old name of Shandong Province) in Late Ming Dynasty. His poetrystands out in Shanzuo poetic circles during the Wanli period. At that time, WangXiangchun lived in a dark period of Late Ming Dynasty. The Wang familyemphasized the family precept of Morality and Reading and Wang Xiangchun hada hard office career, which became his creating backgrounds of poetic theory andpoetic composition. Wang Xiangchun mainly responded to and communicated withGong Zi and Wen Xiangfeng in poetry. In the poetry theory, he opened up a newpoetic road between Vintga and Spirit, put forward new views about Vingta andadvocated stage zen poems and heroic poems. Wang Xiangchun’s poetry can wakeup those who always feel confused and those who fail to tell the differencebetween right and wrong. His poetry is rich in content. In the aspect of content, hispoetry is divided into conversation poem, travel poem and allegorical poem. In theaspect of style, his poetry is realistic, chivalrous, beautiful and fresh. All in all,Wang Xiangchun’s poetic theory and poetic composition promote the developmentof poetry in the Wanli period of shanzuo poetic circles and exert a great influenceon the poetry of Shan Zuo poets including Wang Shizhen, Xu Ye and Dong Yun.
