The research object of this article is Alberti and his On Painting. The firstchapter mainly discusses the image of Alberti set up by Burckhardt–Universal man.Versatility seems to be a feature of the art masters in Renaissance. According to thisspecial phenomenon, in the first chapter, I will discuss Alberti’s giant image. Does hereally versatile? How do people in different period evaluate him? Does he accordwith the giant image established by Burckhardt. The theme of the second chapter isOn Painting. The book puts forward concepts and principles of art. In his book,Alberti not only constructs the basis of art theories, but also mentions a lot of othersubjects. This leads On Painting different from the previous monographs on arttheories, broadens the audiences of the book, and has played an important role inpromoting the status of painters. Alberti, therefore, for the promotion of the positionof painters is one of the focuses of the third chapter of this paper. Because there aretwo versions of On Painting——Latin and Italian, Alberti’s ability for bilingualwriting and the dual ambitions for revival of classicality and innovation are also themain content of this chapter.
