Research Of The Books On Modern Chinese Music History

Every prosperous dynasty would write its own history, which is a Chinese tradition from ancient times to the present. China has a long history in developing historiography.And there are different kinds of historical records, such as written by officials and written by people. However, no matter what kind of historical records, they are the people’s history, knowledge and memory. As a remark given by Engels ’History is everything’, whether the official history, unofficial history, or miscellaneous history and private compiled history, all of them are the important source of studying and researching our history. Chinese ancient records about music were attached in history books. For example Shang shu recorded the story about music in chapter Yao dian. Shi ji set a precedent for ’music style’, which has an significant effect on the later generation.Not until the20th century that the overall development of Chinese music became a research object and was written in to music history through a modern history view. Especially from the founding of the people’s republic of China to1920s, the writing of Chinese music history had become the biggest bright spot. Chinese music history book is The History of Chinese Music written by Ye Bohe(1922), followed by Zheng Jinwen, Xu Zhiheng, Tong Fei, Wang Guangqi, Zhu Qianzhi, Miao Tianrui, Xiao Youmei, Yang Yinliu, Luo Bokui, Wang Yi etc. These people has written books and articles about Chinese music history, music specialized history and music dynasty history. This thesis pays attention to the books of Chinese music history, music specialized history and music dynasty history in modern times, takes the books written by Ye Bohe, Zheng Jinwen, Xu Zhiheng, Wang Guangqi, Tong Fei and Yang Yinliu as research object, and analyzes writers’life, views and values, research method as well as books’ structure, content and main evaluation. By comparing these books, the author can understand the overall development and features of the modern Chinese music history, and offer some inspiration or advice for current research of Chinese music.This thesis consists of seven parts:introduction, which is mainly about the cause, research object, research methods, research scope and several innovations of this thesis; chapter one, explains relevant concepts and the research status; chapter two, introduces and analyzes the music history books during the May4th movement; chapter three and four, introduces and analyzes the music history books during the War of Resistance Against Japan; chapter five and six, criticizes and analyzes the primal problems exist in these books, which fucuses on reflection and offering inspirations; conclusion, summarizing and refining of the whole thesis.
