Japanese Modern History And Historiography Of The Repair

The history of early modern Japan and the compilation of its history records areimportant parts of the history of Japanese historiography. Many historiographythoughts have effect on the historical logic of both modern and contemporaryJapanese, and they are also important subjects to the history of Japanese thoughtsand cultural. Though Chinese scholars made some introduction on them, butresearches begin with systematic view and detail analysis are still in negligence. Onthe basis of the achievements of previous scholars, This paper choose it as subject,and analyze the relations between early modern history of Japan and the trend ofsocial thoughts from the perspective of thoughts and culture in order to makecontribution to our country’s research on history of Japanese historiography.Interpretations and analyses is the basic method of this paper and the influenceof historical progress is also in consideration. By the analysis of the process ofhistorical records compilation、 historical writing and thoughts, even thecharacteristics and influence of each period, this paper aims to solve the followingproblems.First, To clarify the relation of modern hyetography and its previous period, Toanalyses the connections between them, To comprehend modem history andhistoriography’s status from the process of the Japanese historiography.Second, To analyses new method and thoughts of compiling history from themodem transformation perspective of East Asia traditional hyetography. In addition,interpret their relations with East Asia traditional hyetography and modern historyof western world and conclude its unique traits in the transformation, and itsinfluence.Finally, while analyzing Japanese historical writings, this paper discusses howJapanese themselves understand their history and the whole world. And explores theglobal and national traits of Japanese modern history and traces back to theconnection between modern and contemporary historical thoughts. In order to answer all the above problems, this dissertation is divided into sixparts. The prologue explains the reason for selecting this subject, an overview ofrelated research, the researching method and breakthroughs and drawbacks. The firstchapter discusses the cultural ecology of Japanese early modern hyetography,introduces Japanese historiography of previous period. And analyzes theirconnections with previous period, then analyses the process of the establishment ofearly modern hyetography, with an emphasis on the cultural ecology which lead toprosperous early modern historiography. The second chapter introduces the situationof official compilation and its guiding principles, manifests its characteristics andexplores its significance and influence on early modern historiography. The thirdchapter emphasizes on interpreting the influence of provincial compilation—dai nihon shi. mainly discusses its compiling process and the structure、contents、concepton history and history views, explores the trend of its thoughts that reflected duringthe process of compilation and clarifies its influence on Meiji Reform and modernJapan. The fourth chapter analyzes the process and characteristics of privatecompilation, clarifies the periods of its development by combing the materials. Baseson the introduction of the compiler’s life and thoughts and the analyzing of theoutstanding representatives of each period and their woks, I tend to explore thecharacteristics of each period and its influence. The conclusion is the final chapter inwhich I try to conclude the relationships between official、Han and private compilers.Clarify their significance and influence on modern Japan history, and from the viewof traditional historiography transformation, made a thorough interpretation to itsrelationships with East Asia traditional historiography and modern historiography ofwestern world, and its significant influence on Japanese of both modern andcontemporary times.Massive adoption of historical literature is one of the merits of my assentation.In addition to fully solve the particular problems of Japanese modern historiography,this paper also contributes reference material to the further and detailed study. Theanalysis of relationships between historiography of Chinese、western and earlymodern Japan, and further grasp of Japan historiography transformation is also oneof the main topic. Such efforts is a significance reference resource for further study of Japan modern historiography and trace back to the trend of both modern andcontemporary historiography.
